American Crystal Sugar Company

Beet Slicer Addition Project

ACSC Project consisted of the rotation of two (2) beet conveyor belts, one rotated approximately 11 degrees and the other 9 degrees. We had to cut all supporting steel loose and install a retrofitted structure to re-support. All catwalks had to be retrofitted to the new conveyor locations. The catwalk had to have step down sections added due to overhead clearance issues. The existing hopper area was then extended and a new hopper and backhoe were added by installing new lift beams and beam trolleys to assist with installation of the equipment. The existing floor was saw cut and demoed, the old structural steel removed, new steel hung out and new floor formed and the new elevated slab was then poured. The slicer had to be disassembled due to weight and size constraints so the control panel and cutting wheel were removed prior to lifting the 27000 lb unit to the second floor and rolling the unit thru the plant and positioning. During this process we relocated and refabricated the existing stairs and platforms as well completed extensive piping and insulation work throughout the area.
