Recovered Energy Generation Stations

In June 2009 Mechanical Systems Inc was contracted to construct Two Recovered Energy Generation Stations for Ormat Technologies. The two REG’s were connected to Trans-Canada’s pipeline compressor stations.

The scope of work involved the erection of 18 Air Cooler Bundles weighing approximately 27,000 lbs each, plenum assemblies, fans and supporting structure. The installation of a diverter and associated steel, which directed the heat away from the stack and thru the Waste Heat Recovery Unit with tube bundles weighing 189,000 lbs. and 195,000 lbs respectively. All associated cat-walks, platforms and piping for this system also fell under our scope. The piping systems for the facilities were comprised of two closed loop systems. One a Pentane gas system driving a turbine turning 5.5 MGW generator and the other a therminol system delivering the heat needed to expand the gas that was to drive the turbine.

The remainder of the project consisted of the setting of multiple pressure vessels, with some weighing more than 90,000 lbs. The installation of approximately 5,000 linear ft. of pipe, with all piping 100% x-rayed to meet their strict quality control requirements.

Other work included the installation of a new air system, installation of all in-line instruments as well as all pipe, vessel and equipment insulation that was performed in-house by our insulation division
